Blog Post #2
In middle and high school, I became very accustomed to using Microsoft word in both app and website version. I've made many projects on it and can say I am very familiar with its functions. As of recent, I've been using google docs to take notes within my classes but still feel more comfortable with MS word. I will say that even though I feel confident with MS word, I know there is plenty that I don't know and can do better with.
When looking at the ISTE standards, I am most drawn to that of being a citizen. I feel like this standard draws me in the most due to where we are in the world. Being that many of the people alive today are prevalent on the internet, it is very important that people know about their digital footprint and how it can easily have a negative effect on people. Because of all the possible negative effects that come with digital footprints, I believe we as teachers should be able to provide students with an in-depth education about how to prevent digital accidents.
I do believe that the term digital native is very adequate at describing most of today's youth but I also believe there to be many exceptions. We see this when we look at that of kids with parents who keep them away from technology for personal reasons. When looking at people older than what is referred to as a digital native, we see that while most may not be as experienced with technology but many find a comfort in the digital world. Some are so comfortable, that I find them to be more experienced than myself and other "digital natives". During my time in school, I often learned from them about how to get better at technological programs. In terms of my future students and myself, I feel as though there will most likely be a gap in knowledge. Even though I will do my best to keep up with the times, I feel like there is always going to be a difference.
